Don't suffer through repetitive stress injuries alone

Even though the first thing that may come to mind when the word "injury" is mentioned is severe wounds such as cuts and broken bones, there is another class of injury that is much less dramatic but equally as traumatizing. Repetitive stress injuries can cause enormous amounts of pain and affect your ability to work, but you don't have suffer through them alone.

Sometimes known as cumulative trauma or overuse injuries, repetitive stress injuries include a wide range of conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, trigger finger, rotator cuff syndrome, tennis elbow, lower-back pain, and many more. These conditions are not spontaneous instances of injury. Instead, they slowly accumulate over time and lead to sometimes-debilitating situations.

Early in the condition's lifespan, you might not ever realize harm is being done. There are, however, some common symptoms and signs of a repetitive stress injuries. Throbbing pain, tingling, numbness, and reduced range of motion are all red flags to be aware of.

These injuries can affect a variety of professionals, but there are certain industries that are somewhat more prone to the conditions because of the work being done. Health care workers, janitors, drivers, musicians, plumbers, and even professional athletes are all susceptible to the injuries.

These types of conditions can have a huge impact on one's ability to work, but there are systems in place that provide a safety net for those afflicted. Workers' compensation gives people dealing with repetitive stress injuries the ability to continue living their lives. Navigating these programs, however, can be difficult and require specific considerations. Those facing such situations may want to seek the assistance of a qualified attorney to make sure everything is being done correctly.
