How workers' compensation benefits help workers and families

Workers' compensation benefits are available to help injured workers and their families and workers suffering from an occupation illness and their families. Employers are required to carry workers' compensation benefits for the benefit of their employees so workers should be familiar with what the benefits are and how to obtain them.

In general, when a worker has suffered a workplace injury or is suffering from a workplace illness, workers' compensation benefits can help them with their medical expenses to treat the injury or illness, lost earnings while they are unable to work during the period of time they are injured or sick and other types of benefits may be able to help as well. Workers' compensation benefits can help injured workers and their families with their daily needs as they struggle to recover from the harm they suffered at work.

Workers' compensation benefits include benefits for medical care resulting from the workplace injury or illness; replacement income for lost earnings while the injured worker is recovering; costs of retraining or vocational rehabilitation for the injured worker if they are unable to perform the work they did previously; any compensation needed for permanent injuries the injured worker has suffered; and survivor benefits for surviving family members if a worker has been killed on-the-job in a fatal workplace accident.

Workers' compensation benefits are of tremendous value to injured workers and their families who should always know what benefits are available; how to access those benefits; and their rights to workers' compensation benefits when they have suffered a workplace illness or injury. It is important that workers are kept safe at work and protected when they are not.
