Repetitive stress injury basics

Repetitive stress injuries can make it difficult, if not impossible, for injured workers to go to work each day and perform their duties. As a result, it is important for accused individuals to be familiar with how workers' compensation benefits can help with repetitive stress injuries .

Repetitive stress injuries are caused by repeated motions that occur throughout the work day. Repetitive stress injuries that workers may suffer from can include carpal tunnel syndrome; bursitis; tendinitis; tennis elbow; trigger finger; ganglion cyst; and tenosynovitis. Repetitive stress injuries can be caused by repetitious motions or activity; unnatural or awkward motions; overexertion; incorrect posture; or muscle fatigue.

A variety of workers in different types of jobs can suffer from repetitive stress injuries including assembly line work; meatpacking; carpentry; sewing; and working at a computer. Any type of work that requires repeated motions can result in a repetitive stress injury. Injured workers may realize they are suffering from a repetitive stress injury if they experience symptoms including pain, numbness, tingling, swelling or redness and a loss of flexibility or strength in the affected area.

Workers' compensation benefits are a type of insurance that helps injured workers through the recovery process by helping them with medical expenses and lost earnings. Workers suffering with repetitive stress injuries making work difficult should be aware of the protections available to them which include workers' compensation benefits. They should also be familiar with how to obtain those benefits when they need them and how they can help both injured workers and their families.
