Injured workers and their medical care rights

One of the most important concerns when a worker has been injured in a workplace accident is for the injured workers to receive the proper medical care and treatment that they need. Because injured workers and their families likely have many concerns related to the medical treatment they need, how they will obtain the medical treatment and care they need and how that medical care will be paid for, it is useful for them to be familiar with the workers' compensation process.

Workers' compensation benefits can help injured workers receive the medical care they need. Workers' compensation benefits generally can help with medical costs, as well as lost wages. Workers' compensation benefits can also assist injured workers who are suffering from a permanent disability because of the workplace injury or occupational illness they have suffered. It is important for injured workers to understand their rights to receive the medical care and treatment they need.

Injured workers in Ohio have the right to seek treatment from the doctor they select provided that the doctor is certified by the Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC). It is also important to note that once the injured worker or worker suffering from an occupational illness has had their workers' compensation claim approved, they will no longer receive medical bills; following the approval of their workers' compensation claim, their medical bills will be sent to the Managed Care Organization (MCO) which will review them and send them to the Bureau of Workers' Compensation. The BWC then pays the MCO which reimburses the medical care provider.

It is essential for injured workers and workers suffering from an occupational illness to be familiar with the workers' compensation benefits available to them and their rights. Knowing their workers' compensation protections can help protect the interests of the injured worker to ensure they receive the medical care they need to recover.
